We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8–9
Honestly, I did not know what I was going to write about this month until I found myself watching the college football game between the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State this past weekend. At halftime, Texas was down 20–3. From what I had seen in the first half, it certainly appeared that Texas was going to lose the game. They were struggling, mistakes had been made, and Ohio State seemed to have control, but the game was not over.
Texas came back in the second half and ultimately won the game 24–23. As I watched that comeback unfold, I thought about how much it resembles life. Sometimes we look at where we are in a particular season and assume we already know how the story is going to end. We see the score. We see the mistakes. We see how far behind we are and based on what has happened so far, it may appear that there is no way we can recover, but I want you to know that being down does not mean you are out.
One difficult season does not determine the outcome of your life. Disappointment does not mean your purpose has disappeared; a closed door does not mean there will never be another opportunity; and a setback does not mean the game is over. Sometimes, the setback comes right before the comeback.
Life has taught me that there will be seasons when things simply do not go according to plan. We lose; we hurt; we make mistakes; and we experience rejection, disappointment, delays, and circumstances we never anticipated. There are moments when we may even wonder, “How am I going to come back from this?” Remember, just like that football game, there is still time on the clock.
The first half of your story does not have to look like the second half. Sometimes you must regroup; sometimes you have to make adjustments; sometimes you have to stop focusing on how far behind you are and concentrate on what you can do with the opportunity that is still in front of you; and sometimes you simply have to keep playing.
We may experience difficult seasons, but those difficult seasons do not have the authority to write the final chapter. You may be down financially, emotionally, relationally or discouraged in your career, adjusting to an unexpected transition, or wondering why something you prayed for has not come to fruition. You may even be looking at the current score of your life and thinking, “There is no way I can come back from this.” Do not call the game too early—there may still be another quarter, another opportunity, or another chapter where God may still be working in ways you cannot yet see.
Your responsibility is not to know exactly how everything will turn out. Your responsibility is to remain faithful with what is still in your hands—to learn, adjust, grow, pray, and keep moving forward because sometimes what looks like defeat is simply the place where your comeback begins.
Remember, you may be down, but you are not out!

So true. I have been down and out. My faith in God brings me through each time. Just wait on him. He will not leave you or forsake you
Down, but Not out. Just sent this to my amazing daughter in law who was laid off last week. God takes us through seasons, and we go on. I loved this.
