“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

There comes a season in life when you stop rushing and start reflecting. Sixty is one of those sacred milestones. Today, I am grateful to say I have reached six decades of living. It is not just about the years behind me—it is about the wisdom I have gathered, the storms I have survived, and the peace I have learned to protect. There is a settling that happened in my spirit, a quiet confidence that comes from knowing God has carried me through every season.

Within these 60 years, I have experienced both mountaintop and valley moments. The mountaintops brought joy—motherhood, becoming a grandmother, achieving educational and professional goals, retiring after a long career, and stepping into entrepreneurship. The valleys, though more difficult, were just as defining—seasons of rejection, alienation, loss of loved ones, divorce, and betrayal. Yet as I look back, I can clearly see that every experience, both high and low, played a role in shaping who I was becoming. Nothing was wasted. As Romans 8:28 reminds us, “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

I have come to understand that life will teach you—patiently or persistently—until you truly learn the lesson. By age 60, certain truths have settled deep within my spirit. They are no longer just things I have heard—they are things I have lived. It is from that place; I offer 12 lessons that have anchored me along the way:

  1. Peace is valuable. Not every misunderstanding requires a response. Peace has become my priority.
  2. Time is sacred. I have become more intentional about who and what I give my energy to. Not everything deserves access to me, and I honor that without guilt.
  3. Prioritize your health. Caring for my health is no longer optional—it is stewardship. My body is the vessel that allows me to walk in purpose and show up fully in every area of my life.
  4. Prioritize sleep. Rest is not a luxury—it is restoration. I have learned that my body was never designed to run on empty, and honoring rest allows me to function with clarity and strength.
  5. When something ends, let it go and give yourself permission to begin again. Life does not stop because something didn’t work out. Reinvention is not reserved for the young—it is available to anyone willing to trust God in a new season.
  6. Financial alignment matters. After years of earning, spending, and learning, I understand that money is a tool—not my identity. True peace comes when my finances align with my values and purpose.
  7. People are seasonal—know the difference. Some people are meant for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Letting go isn’t always loss; sometimes it’s growth.
  8. Your voice matters. At 60, I no longer wonder whether I have something to offer—I know I do. My experiences have given me wisdom, and my voice carries purpose.
  9. Listen more. There is strength in listening. It creates space for understanding, deepens relationships, and sharpens discernment.
  10. Be grateful. The small things have become the big things—a quiet morning, good health, family, and peace of mind. Gratitude has a way of shifting your perspective and grounding your heart.
  11. Healing is a lifelong journey. Unhealed wounds do not disappear, but I have learned that healing is possible with time, intention, and God’s grace. Releasing what no longer serves me is part of walking in my freedom.
  12. Create new experiences—keep learning. Staying open to new experiences keeps my spirit alive. Growth does not stop at a certain age; it continues as long as I remain willing to learn, stretch, and become.

If there is one thing I would leave with you, it is this: life is not about getting everything right—it is about growing through everything you experience. Every lesson, every season, every challenge has purpose. At 60, I am not looking back with regret, but with gratitude. I am not slowing down—I am moving forward with intention, clarity, and peace. So, wherever you are in your journey, give yourself permission to grow, to heal, and to become. Trust that God is still writing your story, and the chapters ahead are just as meaningful as the ones behind you.
