“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”  1 Thessalonians 5:18

Undoubtedly, 2025 has brought significant social unrest, racial discord, economic downturns, layoffs, furloughs, and natural disasters that have left our country grieving unimaginable losses. Yet despite the turmoil and despair, I choose to stay positive and focus on the good. I am grateful for the quiet moments and simple pleasures of life: fresh flowers, soft pajamas, scented candles, Yogi tea, music that soothes my spirit, workouts at the gym, long neighborhood walks, a new Audible book for Book Club, insightful webinars, meaningful conversations with my women’s ministry, deep talks with my sons, my grandbabies’ giggles, laughter-filled chats with my sister-friends, and the tender feeling of my mother’s presence while I’m cooking in the kitchen.

I haven’t always taken the time to “smell the roses,” but now I cherish and give thanks for those unassuming moments. Wherever gratitude grows, peace flows.

As we approach the season of Thanksgiving, even when life feels bleak, I encourage you to shift your perspective. Look around—miracles are still happening every day. Babies are being born. Couples are exchanging vows. New homes are being built. Entrepreneurs are stepping out in faith. Authors are writing new chapters. Healing is taking place. Promotions are on the horizon. What you see depends entirely on the lens through which you are looking.

I am truly grateful for my life, though it has not always been easy. I’ve had to be intentional about viewing life through a positive lens. As we move through this holiday season, I offer a few perspectives to help nurture a positive mindset:

  • Don’t allow your beginning to dictate your ending.
  • It is never too late to succeed.
  • Know who you are in Christ; do not let others label you.
  • Never brand yourself by your current situation (e.g., divorced, broke, sick).
  • Seek therapy if needed—get to the root of your dysfunction.
  • Understand that the root may stem from childhood.
  • Embrace your past and learn from it, but don’t stay stuck in it.
  • Speak about what you’re struggling with—don’t let it hold you hostage.
  • Forgive yourself, and forgive those who hurt you.
  • You will make mistakes; get back up, dust yourself off, and keep moving.
  • Every unfortunate situation carries a lesson—find it. It will serve your purpose.
  • Drown out negative chatter.
  • Cultivate genuine friendships.
  • Surround yourself with positive energy.
  • Connect with people who are smarter than you.
  • Always remain willing to learn something new.
  • Don’t fear rejection or failure.
  • Invest in yourself—practice self-care.
  • Share your gifts and talents; serving others brings healing.
  • Remember those God placed on your path. You may not have had who you wanted, but God provided who you needed.
  • Everyone won’t celebrate your accomplishments—be grateful for those who do.
  • Seek your purpose. What is God calling you to do?
  • We don’t go through trials for ourselves alone; they prepare us to uplift others.

During unsettling times, it is essential to remain positive and express gratitude. When negative thoughts creep in, I challenge you to serve someone, uplift someone, or celebrate someone. Take a moment to make someone else’s day; you will be amazed by how much joy it brings to your own heart.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!!! Stay safe and well.
